Wispr Flow alternatives compared (October 2026)

Looking for a Wispr Flow alternative? Superwhisper, Willow, Aqua Voice, Typeless and VoiceVibe side by side: free plans, platforms, prices and what each does beyond dictation.

The best Wispr Flow alternative depends on why you're leaving: the free word limit, privacy, Linux, price, or wanting more than dictation. Here's how the main options compare.

We make VoiceVibe, so this is our comparison, not an independent review. Facts about the other apps come from their own websites on 21 October 2026. We haven't tested them side by side.

The short answer

  • Free voice typing with no word limit? Superwhisper, Handy or VoiceVibe. All three run on your computer and work offline.
  • On Linux? VoiceVibe (X11 only), Handy, or Typeless.
  • Need a phone app? Superwhisper, Willow, Aqua Voice or Typeless. VoiceVibe doesn't have one.
  • Want to pay less? Superwhisper ($8.49 a month, or a lifetime licence) or Aqua Voice ($12 a month, or $10 paid yearly).
  • Want more than dictation? VoiceVibe also reads text aloud, answers you out loud and launches coding agents.

Quick questions

Is Wispr Flow free?

Partly. Right now, on Mac and Windows you get 2,000 words a week. After that it slows down, and at 5,000 words it stops until Sunday. The phone apps get fewer words. Pro is $15 a month, or $12 a month paid yearly, and students get 50% off.

Is it private?

Wispr Flow works in the cloud; we didn't find an offline mode. The free plans of Willow, Aqua Voice and Typeless use the cloud too. To keep your voice on your computer, use Superwhisper's free plan, Handy, or VoiceVibe's free voice typing. VoiceVibe's Pro features use the cloud (see our privacy policy).

The alternatives

Superwhisper

The closest match to Wispr Flow, for less money: $8.49 a month, $7.08 a month paid yearly, or $249.99 once, with 40% off for students.

Good

  • Unlimited free dictation on your computer
  • iPhone and Android apps
  • On a Mac, pops up when a coding agent needs your answer

Watch out

  • The free plan runs only Whisper models; Parakeet and its most accurate models, S1-Voice in the cloud and Cohere Transcribe on your computer, need Pro
  • AI cleanup needs the paid plan
  • Linux is “coming soon”

Willow

Much like Wispr Flow, at the same price, from another company: $15 a month, or $12 a month paid yearly.

Good

  • Cleans up filler words and punctuation
  • Scribe rewrites selected text or writes new text (20 times a week on the free plan)

Watch out

  • The free plan runs in the cloud, and Willow's pages disagree on its limit
  • Offline mode is paid, and only on Mac and iPhone
  • iPhone only for now; no Linux

Aqua Voice

Good value if you mostly rewrite text by voice: $12 a month, or $10 a month paid yearly, with 70% off for students.

Good

  • Select text and say what to change, on every plan
  • Runs on Intel Macs, iPhone and Android too

Watch out

  • Needs the internet on desktop
  • Only your first 1,000 words are free

Typeless

A cloud app on every device, best value if you pay yearly: $30 a month, or $12 a month paid yearly.

Good

  • Rewrites and drafts text by voice
  • AI cleanup on the free plan too
  • Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android

Watch out

  • Everything runs in the cloud, even dictation
  • The free plan has lower accuracy than Pro, and a weekly word limit
  • The Linux app is an older version, and its site doesn't say whether it works on X11 or Wayland

Handy

Free, open source and fully offline. It's not in the table because it's dictation only.

Good

  • Choose Whisper or Parakeet V3 models
  • Mac, Windows and Linux
  • Some Wayland support, which VoiceVibe doesn't have

Watch out

  • AI cleanup is experimental and needs your own API key, a local model, or Apple Intelligence on newer Macs
  • No phone apps

Where VoiceVibe fits

VoiceVibe is an AI voice assistant you can use anywhere on your computer. Hold your key (you choose which in Settings), talk, and choose what happens.

  • Voice typing: free on your device, with no word limit, and it works offline. It runs Parakeet Ultra, an improved version of NVIDIA's Parakeet by Moondream. With Pro, it also cleans up grammar, filler words and self-corrections.
  • Read aloud (Pro): select text and press a key to hear it in one of 120 voices, or a clone of your own.
  • Ask and hear the answer (Pro): ask about what's on your screen, then ask a follow-up. The answer can be spoken in your cloned voice too.
  • Hand a task to an agent (Pro): VoiceVibe launches Claude Code, Codex or another agent with your task, and you check it before it's sent. The agent needs its own account.

Add a screenshot, a file, selected text or your clipboard, then choose where the result goes: typed where you're working, copied to your clipboard, or spoken back to you.

VoiceVibe's mode selector open over a TextEdit document on a Mac, with input options for adding a file, a screenshot or the clipboard
VoiceVibe's modes and input options, on a Mac.

You can get each of these somewhere else on its own. VoiceVibe puts them all on the same key as your dictation.
